You did it again, Dallas! Six stellar bands showed serious talent on stage, covering a wide variety of genres and reminding us what a musical city Dallas is. The local legal community once again brought the best of vibes, and it was an electric evening that raised $82K!
Law Rocks Dallas opened with a packed house ready to rock! Suburban Crime Spree greeted the crowd with groovy energy matching the lead female vocalist dressed in patchwork denim bell bottoms. They took us through different decades as vocals shifted back and forth between vocalists. Covers of “Teenage Dirtbag” to “Fire” had people dancing and singing along. A shining moment happened during “Hate To Say I Told Ya So” with the lead male vocals encouraging the crowd to clap along in unison while they introduced the band. They pumped up the crowd and set the tone for an awesome night!
T.R.O., a first-time band at Law Rocks Dallas, was up next and they had some loud supporters in the front. T.R.O. took this support and raised the energy to the next level with a rockin’ cover of U2’s “Vertigo”. They delivered a comical moment as the lead vocals sang “all of this can be yours” while gesturing to the guitarist and bassist as though presenting a game show prize. The crowd ate it up, and laughter erupted. T.R.O. moved into the nostalgic classic, “Interstate Love Song” by Stone Temple Pilots, and the audience embraced this warm wave of a mood change. A killer solo in Lenny Kravitz’ “Always On The Run” was matched with impressive lead and backup vocals. This may have been their inaugural show, but they played like seasoned Law Rocks veterans.
Next to take the stage were newcomers, No Recourse. Rocking a punk-prep look, the band tore through hit after hit with energy and attitude. From a killer rendition of “Mr Brightside” to a masterful execution of Olivia Rodrigo’s speedy hit, “Brutal”, the band proved to be a serious contender, taking home the prized Judges’ Choice Award. Additional highlights included an emotional cover of “Creep” by Radiohead and a take on “All the Small Things” that resonated with the crowd as they shouted the line “Work sucks, I know!” The crowd was ready to let off steam and No Recourse delivered.
Fourth to take the stage were 2024 champions, Just South of Nowhere, rocking boots, fringe and a couple of cowboy hats. They brought the country to the Law Rocks Dallas stage with a set of down-home tunes. They played a rollicking rendition of “Goodbye Earl” by The Chicks, a romantic cover of Tyler Childers “Your’n”, and an original song inspired by “Thelma & Louise”. The band’s stellar performance showcased tight harmonies and rich instrumentation featuring a mandolin and steel guitar. Paired with a jaw-dropping $23K in fundraising, they secured their second Overall Win and Hustle & Heart Award.
Ring the Bell Nunnally shifted gears delivering a high-energy set of rock covers. The crowd was immediately captivated as the female vocalist expertly belted the intro to Led Zeppelin’s Whole Lotta Love. A surprise mash-up into Purple Haze by Jimi Hendrix showed off the male vocalist and incredible guitar solos. The energy continued as several songs were expertly blended throughout, including Landslide by Fleetwood Mac and Drain You by Nirvana. They kept the crowd dancing with Tipsy by Shaboozy and then ended it with their own dancing skills as the guitarists danced and jumped in unison during “Jumpin’ Jack Flash”.
Wrapping up the night, Lovers & Lunatics slowed it down with a beautiful and powerful set of original songs. The crowd was drawn in by soulful vocals from the lead vocalist, dressed in a retro flower print dress with a sparkling belt, and blue suede pumps. During their original song, “Vampire”, the guitarist delivered a melodically rich solo on a stunning red D’Angelico guitar that matched the lead vocals poppin’ red lipstick. They moved into a soulful track “Nothing Left” with powerful bluesy vocals. This was a debut performance for Lovers & Lunatics, who invited the crowd to check out their new album “Mood Swings” on all music streaming platforms.
